MindMap AI

Free AI PDF Summarizer

Summarize a text-based PDF into an editable visual mind map without OCR.

Summarize a readable PDF without uploading the file first

The PDF summarizer extracts selectable text inside your browser, then sends the extracted text for AI generation. The original PDF file is not first uploaded to a file server, which reduces unnecessary file handling while still producing an editable mind map.

This workflow is intended for text-based PDFs such as digital reports, papers, guides and manuals. It does not perform optical character recognition, so a scanned document made only of page images needs OCR elsewhere before it can be summarized here.

PDF content you can turn into a mind map

Reports and white papers

Organize sections, findings, supporting observations and recommendations from a long digital report.

Research papers

Create an initial map of the question, approach, results and limitations before a detailed scholarly reading.

Guides and manuals

Separate concepts, procedures, requirements and warnings so the document is easier to navigate later.

Digital books and handouts

Review central themes and chapter-level ideas in legally obtained, text-based learning material.

What happens to your PDF

After you choose a file, readable text is extracted locally in the browser. The tool checks the file size, page count and extracted text length before requesting a summary.

The result is a new editable mind map, not a modified copy of the PDF. Page design, images, tables and exact pagination are not reproduced, so important visual evidence should still be reviewed in the original file.

  • Local extraction of selectable PDF text
  • A topic hierarchy based on the readable document content
  • Editable branches for sections and supporting points
  • No OCR or reproduction of the original page layout

How it works

Extract and summarize readable PDF text in three steps.

1

Choose a PDF

Select a text-based PDF up to 10MB and 50 pages.

2

Extract text locally

Readable text is extracted in your browser without OCR.

3

Generate the mind map

AI summarizes the document into an editable visual structure.

Turn long content into a useful visual summary

Structured output

See topics and supporting ideas instead of a single paragraph.

Source-grounded

The generated structure is checked against the supplied text.

Editable result

Continue refining the summary in the mind map editor.

Choose a PDF that can be summarized well

Test whether text is selectable

Try selecting and copying a sentence in your PDF viewer. If you cannot, the file is probably scanned or image-based.

Use the relevant document

Choose a file focused on the subject you need. Large appendices and unrelated sections can dilute the resulting hierarchy.

Check extracted meaning

Multi-column layouts, unusual fonts or complex tables may extract in an imperfect order, so inspect the final map carefully.

Return to pages for evidence

Use the map to locate ideas, but confirm figures, footnotes, diagrams and quotations in the original PDF.

Supported PDF limits

The current version accepts a PDF up to 10MB and 50 pages, with no more than 40,000 extracted characters. Password-protected files, scanned pages and files without readable text are not supported.

PDF extraction focuses on text. Charts, images, handwriting, mathematical layout and table relationships may be missing or flattened, so the summary should not replace a visual review of the document.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support scanned PDFs?

Not yet. This version supports PDFs that contain selectable text and does not perform OCR.

What are the limits?

PDF files can be up to 10MB, 50 pages and 40,000 extracted characters in this initial version.

Is the PDF uploaded first?

No. Text is extracted locally in the browser and only the extracted text is sent for generation.

How can I tell whether my PDF is text-based?

Open it in a PDF viewer and try to select and copy a sentence. If copied text is readable, extraction will usually work. If only a rectangular image is selected, the file likely needs OCR.

Are charts, images and tables summarized?

Only their extractable text may be available. The tool does not interpret page images or preserve complex table structure, so review visual elements and numerical relationships in the original PDF.

Why was my PDF rejected even though it has fewer than 50 pages?

It may exceed 10MB, be password-protected, contain no selectable text or produce more than 40,000 extracted characters. Scanned files can also appear empty to a text extractor.

Does the generated mind map include PDF page numbers?

Not reliably. The summary is organized by meaning rather than page layout. Keep the original PDF available when you need to locate an exact quotation, figure or footnote.
